Tap Handles

A collection of beer tap handles painted for Lamplighter Brewing Company. Each one is hand lettered and embellished with the brewery’s signature lamp logo.

Lamplighter Brewing Co. has been crafting excellent beer at their facilities in Cambridge since 2016.

The brewery’s production space has an adjunct bar and taproom, decorated throughout with murals from various local artists. In addition to the draft beer available on site, Lamplighter distributes to local bars and retailers. In 2019 they installed their own in-house canning operation.

The production side of the brewery can be seen through a window from the front tap room. Peeking out from behind the canning equipment, you can see my mural.

Composed of warm tones and colorful gradients to compliment the cool stainless steel and concrete which surround it, the piece also features angular geometric designs and broad, winding strokes of color.

The cube stacks are a symbolic of molecular chains breaking down and reforming, a reference to the biochemistry of brewing. Sanguine blobs lift off the walls and floor and drift toward the ceiling, creating a sense of movement similar to watching a lava lamp.

The Hallway, 2016
The Hallway, 2016

Imagine you are sitting at the bar at La Brasa in Winter Hill. After a fine meal and several tequilas, you excuse yourself to find the restroom. A series of signs draws you to a narrow hallway. You become lost along the way in a dreamlike world bustling with vibrant patterns and surreal figures. The next day you wonder whether you may have hallucinated the entire experience.

Painted as part of a group show at the Dorchester Art Project, this piece is an example of how strikingly attractive the contrast of simple black and white line work can be.
